STAR has been providing quality outpatient care for those afflicted with sex addiction and related disorders for 15 yrs. We are the oldest entity of its kind in the Philadelphia area.
Cara graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1991 where she received her Masters in Social Science Degree. She has been treating sex addicts and their partners in both individual and group settings since 1991. Cara is an active member of the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH). She is also a Level II trained EMDR therapist. Her previous experiences include serving as a medical social worker where she developed expertise in the area of traumatic and chronic illness and loss. Today, Cara maintains a private practice as well as educating the behavioral healthcare community through workshops and lectures. Ms. Tripodi has contributed to “Mending a Shattered Heart: A Guide for Partners of Sex Addicts” and recently co-authored with Claudia Black in “Intimate Treason: Healing the Trauma for Partners Confronting Sex Addiction”.
Jordan Lief
Psy. D., CSAT
Jordan is a licensed psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania. He received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Widener University in 2006. He has over 21 years of experience in the fields of sexual addiction, love addiction, and compulsive sexual behavior, and he is a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. He spent four years working at the Keystone Extended Care Unit, an inpatient facility that treats these issues primarily. Jordan has lectured on the graduate level on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of sexual addiction. At S.T.A.R., he is currently providing individual therapy, group therapy, and couples therapy.
Marie Wilson
Ph.D., LPC, CSAT-S, ATR-BC
Marie is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Sex Addiction Therapist & Supervisor and Board-Certified Art Therapist with over 40 years in the behavioral health field. Marie began to specialize in sex addiction in 1997 at the Meadows in Arizona where she worked directly with Dr. Patrick Carnes, the pioneer of the sexual addiction field. She has been with the STAR Program since 2000. Marie is Professor Emerita in the School of Psychology & Counseling at Caldwell University in New Jersey and is the founder and former Director of their CACREP-accredited Mental Health Counseling/Art Therapy Program. She has published numerous articles on the use of the creative process with sex addicts and contributed chapters in the Clinical Management of Sexual Addiction (2002) and The International Handbook on Sexual Addiction (2018). She is a foundational member of the Advisory Board for the certification of sex addiction therapists, received her doctorate in Addiction Psychology at Capella University and is a Fulbright Scholar.
Lucien Thomsen
LCSW, CSAT-S, CMAT-CD, CSOTS
Lucien specializes in the assessment and treatment of adolescents and adults with problematic sexual behaviors, including sex addiction, sex offending, professional sexual misconduct, and substance/alcohol use disorders. As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist-Supervisor, Certified Multiple Addiction Therapist-Alcohol/Chemical Dependency, and Sex Offender Treatment Specialist, he conducts evaluations and works collaboratively with treatment professionals, professional assistance programs, attorneys, and supervising authorities to effectively treat his clients. Lucien also treats individuals with chronic interpersonal problems and issues related to trauma. He is a clinical member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers; a member of the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals; and a member of the National Association of Forensic Counselors.
Mary Ellen Goetz
Psy.D., ATR-BC, CSAT
Mary Ellen Goetz is a licensed psychologist and board-certified masters level art therapist. Dr. Goetz specializes in the treatment of love and sex addiction. Her treatment of addictions includes drug, alcohol, and sex and love addiction. Dr. Goetz has experience in inpatient and outpatient treatment and practiced in varied clinical settings including Drexel University Hospital, Belmont Center, Renfrew, Keystone and S.T.A.R. Dr. Goetz treats adults with sex addiction and adolescents who come from families with addictions. Dr. Goetz uses art therapy to identify complex current and past family dynamics that often contribute to the addiction process and that otherwise remain repressed. Dr. Goetz supports children and adolescents from families with sex and love addiction in individual and group therapy. Dr. Goetz served on the faculty at Hahnemann University and Marywood College.
Stacy Brumage
LCPC, LPC
Stacy is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 18 years in the behavioral health and addictions field. Beginning in 2006, Stacy began working in drug and alcohol addiction treatment prior to moving into her private practice in 2010. It was in 2010 where she trained to become a Certified Sex Addiction therapist and continues to work within this field. Stacy maintains a private practice in West Chester, PA as well as in Maryland, where she focuses on partners and families impacted by sexual addiction and betrayal trauma.
Becca Colbert
Office Administrator
Becca Colbert is new to S.T.A.R. as the office administrator. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare with a minor in Business Administration from Gordon College. For seven years, Becca provided franchisee and client support for the national corporate office of Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services, INC. Her experience in the field of human services includes juvenile probation in the Greater Boston area and adolescent mental health case management across Delaware County, PA. Most recently, she has entered the field of education through teaching preschool and kindergarten students at Claritas Classical Academy in Bryn Mawr, PA. At S.T.A.R., Becca will oversee all administrative needs.
